Cape of Good Hope, South Africa

There are to ways to drive to the south-western most point of the African continent, my tour went south-east towards False Bay and Muizenberg at the shores of the Indian ocean. On the slopes of the Table Mountain, there is the Cecil Rhodes Monument - honoring a successful entrepreneur for diamond and gold minery and political leader in South Africa and Zimbabwe under the British Empire.
The water of the Indian ocean is 10 degrees warmer than the Atlantic ocean just 15 miles to the West. The False Bay provides a long natural beach which during bad weather conditions turned out to be a disaster for many captains on the way from Asia to Europe: they just turned "right" to go north a few miles early and stranded in False Bay.
More to the south Simon's Town housed a British naval station, today it is rather calm and more famous for the penguins at Boulders Beach.
After entering the Cape of Good Hope Nature Reserve, the road leads to the lighthouses near Cape Point and Cape of Good Hope. The latter is the most south-western point of the African continent - the southernmost point is the Cape Agulhas about 180 km to the east.

The Cape dassie (Hyrax) has four toes like the elephant and is its closest relative. It has the size of a small cat, though.
